Congressman Massa Brings Intelligence Committee Chairman Reyes to Tour ITT Space Systems Facilities in Rochester

Rochester, NY, September 22, 2009 — Today ITT Corporation (NYSE: ITT) welcomed local Congressman Eric Massa (D-NY) and Congressman Silvestre Reyes (D-TX) on a tour of its space and defense manufacturing facilities in Rochester. Reyes is Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, which is responsible for the budget and policy oversight of intelligence activities for many government agencies including the Department of Defense. The visit occurred at a critical time for Chairman Reyes as Congress debates 2010 funding for intelligence programs, as well as the future of imagery collection satellites.

The tour included the advanced optics and commercial imaging manufacturing areas where 1,700 Rochester ITT employees build some of the world's most sophisticated space telescopes and camera assemblies. These imaging systems provide high-resolution earth images for commercial applications such as Google Earth, as well as the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency whose core mission is to provide images and information to the defense and intelligence communities.

Congressman Reyes said, "I thank Congressman Massa for inviting me to Rochester to see the innovative work being done here by some of our country's most talented scientists and engineers. This work is critical to our national security. I, along with my colleagues on the Intelligence Committee, remain committed to giving America's intelligence professionals throughout the world the tools and resources they need to fulfill their mission to keep us safe."

Congressman Massa co-hosted the tour with Chris Young, president ITT Space Systems Division. "When Congressman Massa toured our facilities earlier this year, he learned first-hand of our world-class scientists, engineers, and facilities. He also learned that in order to maintain and grow our business here in Rochester, other senior leaders in Washington must know about our important mission. Therefore, we are truly grateful to Congressman Massa for bringing Intelligence Committee Chairman Reyes to town," said Young.

"In light of shrinking federal agency budgets and the economic recession, I am doing all I can to help businesses in our area," said Massa. "I believe it is critical for my colleagues in Washington to learn of the excellent talent we have in western New York, and the important role they play in providing key technologies and products to the Department of Defense and the intelligence community. I appreciate Chairman Reyes taking time out of his busy schedule to visit ITT Space Systems. I know he was as impressed at what he saw as I have been," Massa ended.
