Rochester, NY, June 4, 2009 — ITT Corporation (NYSE: ITT) announced today that two Rochester-area high school seniors have been awarded ITT scholarships for college study. The students are sons and daughters of employees of ITT's Space Systems Division, which is headquartered in Rochester. This year, 16 winners, were selected on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and personal accomplishments, and were chosen from a group of 245 applicants from the families of approximately 20,000 U.S.-based ITT Corporation employees. The Rochester-area winners are as follows: Meaghan McSorley, Hilton High School, Hilton, NY, will be attending Cornell University, and is the daughter of Daniel McSorley, a staff engineer at ITT Space Systems; Justin Bernegger, Fairport High School, Fairport, NY, will be attending University of Buffalo, and is the son of Susan Bernegger, a staff engineer at ITT Space Systems. "We are proud to recognize these outstanding students, and to assist them in pursuing a higher education. We expect that they will follow in the footsteps of many past ITT scholarship winners who have gone on to promising careers in many fields," said Steve Loranger, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of ITT Corporation. Under the program, the amount of each scholarship is based on the financial needs of the student recipient. Recipients can apply the funding toward an undergraduate degree at the college of their choice. Since 1980 when this program was established, 1,654 scholarships have been awarded. The program is administered by an independent organization called Scholarship and Recognition Programs, a division of the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, N.J. Winners were selected on their demonstrated academic achievement and promise, community service and leadership.
