Precision Cleaning Operation Located on Lee Road Rochester, NY, March 17, 2009 — ITT Corporation has unveiled a new multi-million dollar leading-edge precision cleaning facility on Lee Road to better serve its aerospace customers. ITT's Space Systems Division, with some 1,600 local employees, is headquartered in Rochester. The new clean room facility provides precision cleaning and packaging of aerospace flight hardware and optical payloads. It can also process individual components such as optics, composite structures, metals and high-performance coatings. "The precision cleaning facility is an investment in Rochester and in our future," said Chris Young, president of ITT Space Systems Division. "It provides us with advanced process analytical capability to verify for our customers that we are meeting their critical cleanliness requirements for putting systems into space." The new precision cleaning facility is about half the size of the facility that it replaces, but it provides twice the amount of throughput. The facility can be operated safely around the clock, accommodating three shifts a day. ITT plans to offer its precision cleaning services to other ITT divisions as well as to existing and new external customers. Temperature and humidity are highly regulated in a cleanroom, and the air is repeatedly filtered to remove particulates and condensable molecular contaminants that can damage highly sensitive advanced technology components.
