High School Students Win ITT Scholarships

Rochester, NY, July 2, 2008 — ITT Corporation (NYSE: ITT) announced today that the following six high school seniors have been awarded ITT scholarships for college study:
  • Peter J. Richter, Honeoye Falls-Lima High School, son of Charles Richter, a senior process engineer at SSD;
  • Katherine I. Young, Honeoye Falls-Lima High School, daughter of Deborah Hoveland, an image scientist at SSD;
  • Alyssa T. O'Connor, Pittsford Sutherland High School, daughter of Matthew Joseph O'Connor, director of product assurance at SSD;
  • Allison N. Carnwath, Williamson High School, daughter of Susan Carnwath, business manager in SSD;
  • Richard F. Doell, Penfield High School, son of Kathleen Doell, value-based six sigma specialist at SSD.
  • Amanda Huffman, Dwenger High School in Fort Wayne, IN, daughter of John Huffman, principal manufacturing engineer at SSD in Fort Wayne, IN.
The students are sons and daughters of employees of ITT's Space Systems Division (SSD), which is headquartered in Rochester. This year, 18 winners, selected on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and personal accomplishments, were chosen from a group of 195 applicants from the families of approximately 20,000 U.S.-based ITT employees.

"We are proud to recognize these outstanding students, and to assist them in pursuing a higher education. We expect that they will follow in the footsteps of many past ITT scholarship winners who have gone on to promising careers in many fields," said Steve Loranger, chairman, president and chief executive officer of ITT.

Under the program, the amount of each scholarship is based on the financial needs of the student recipient. Recipients can apply the funding toward an undergraduate degree at the college of their choice.

Since 1980 when this program was established, 1,638 scholarships have been awarded. The program is administered by an independent organization called Scholarship and Recognition Programs, a division of the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, N.J. Winners were selected on their demonstrated academic achievement and promise, community service and leadership.
