ITT Successfully Demonstrates Low-Cost, Broad Area Persistent Surveillance System

White Plains, NY July 9, 2007 — ITT Corporation (NYSE:ITT) in cooperation with CenTauri Solutions announced that a demonstration of a low-cost, broad area persistent surveillance system featuring commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components has been completed. Imagery from the ITT system will enhance overall situational awareness, forensic backtracking, event detection, target tracking, near real-time actionable intelligence, mission planning, and sensor-to-shooter technologies.

CenTauri Solutions chose ITT as its end-to-end payload and ground system provider after ITT demonstrated the ability to provide a 66 megapixel camera with an integrated processing solution, and the ability to display high-resolution geolocated imagery within seven seconds of capture. ITT's sensor technology and CenTauri's experience with Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) and homeland security applications headline a powerful partnership focused on delivering persistent surveillance solutions to DoD, DHS, law enforcement and other government agencies.

ITT began development of the 66 megapixel camera system in the third quarter of 2006 by integrating COTS components with ITT proprietary high-speed JPEG2000 compression hardware. This configuration allows streaming of broad area imagery from airborne servers to multiple users in near real-time over low bandwidth radio frequency links. The images are exploited on ITT's Mosaic Screener Client (MSC) which stabilizes, rectifies, and mosaics the images in real time as they are served from the onboard computer or from a local ground station.

The aerial imaging sensor system is comprised of six airborne qualified cameras from Geospatial Systems, Inc (GSI) in an array configuration designed to collect images that are several square miles in area at a rate of two frames per second. Other COTS components include a gimbal from Vinten and an Inertial Position and Attitude System (IPAS) from Leica Geosystems. ITT conceived, orchestrated, and then integrated the final product.

After preliminary test flights in 2006 aboard the company's Cessna Caravan aircraft, ITT's Space Systems Division integrated their system with a radio system, provided by Harris Corporation, on an Atair Aerospace powered paraglider. The latter can serve as a low cost, yet innovative unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) solution that can be deployed quickly and controlled by field commanders.

Today's announcement follows system validation demonstrations with CenTauri, May 7-18 at Atair's flight test facilities in Eloy, Arizona.

"During 15 successful flights, ITT's broad area persistent surveillance system captured and downlinked 66 megapixel visual spectrum images at two frames per second for multiple users on the ground," said Bruce Wald, Vice President & Director, Image Information Solutions, ITT Space Systems Division. "We anticipate significant interest from commercial and government sectors for this unique combination of a high performance, scalable surveillance system that maximizes the value of open standards."

ITT's Space Systems Division provides innovative solutions to customers in the Department of Defense, Intelligence, Space Science and Commercial Aerospace to help them visualize and understand critical events happening on Earth, in the air, or in space in time to take effective action. Leveraging comprehensive capabilities within the electromagnetic spectrum, Space Systems' solutions span from image and data collection through processing and dissemination. Key applications include intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; high-resolution commercial imaging; space science; meteorology and Earth sciences; GPS navigation; and image and data processing and dissemination.
