Opportunity to Win New Business and Create New Jobs ROCHESTER, N.Y., August 29, 2006 - Governor George E. Pataki announced today that ITT, a global engineering and manufacturing corporation, updated and expanded its Space Systems operation in Monroe County. The $6 million investment included the addition of a 10,000 square-foot clean room at their town of Gates manufacturing, research and development operation, and facility improvements to their town of Greece manufacturing operation. This expansion provides the opportunity to win new business and may lead to the creation of up to 200 additional jobs in Monroe County. "ITT expanding and growing their Monroe County operation is another example of New York's business-friendly atmosphere hard at work," Governor Pataki said. "Companies, such as ITT, help grow the Empire State's economy, alongside our skilled workforce and we appreciate their investment in New York's future." ITT, based in White Plains, New York, is a $7.4 billion global engineering and manufacturing company with approximately 40,000 employees world wide. It provides products and services in many markets, including equipment for water and wastewater treatment and industrial processes, defense electronics and services, electronic components such as connectors and switches and a wide range of other industrial products. Its Space Systems division specializes in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems, image information solutions, GPS navigation systems, meteorological imagers and sounders, commercial remote sensing systems, and space science systems. In August of 2004, ITT acquired Eastman Kodak Company’s Remote Sensing Systems (RSS) operation. The acquisition supported ITT’s plans to grow its aerospace and defense business by combining RSS with its meteorological and navigational space payload businesses, forming the ITT Space Systems Division. The former RSS headquarters in Rochester became the headquarters for the new ITT division. Space Systems has operations in five states and employs approximately 2,600, with 1,800 in Monroe County. Chris Young, President of ITT Space Systems Division, said, "As part of our commitment to Monroe County and the community, we are proud to have been able to expand our operations here and to continue to provide high-tech jobs in New York State." In consideration of this company’s commitment to New York State, ITT is eligible to apply to Empire State Development for a capital grant of up to $800,000 to offset costs associated with clean room construction and facility improvements. Additionally, Monroe County offered the company a sales tax exemption and a real property tax break on new construction.
