  Mirror Figuring

Employing Innovative Figuring Technologies
ITT has developed two complementary technologies for precision figuring of complex spherical and aspheric optical surfaces — small tool polishing and ion figuring.

Depending on the optic's application, we apply one or both of these figuring technologies to deterministically converge optical surfaces to final specification. Optics that receive these surface treatments are required in spaceborne remote sensing cameras, ground-based telescopes, microlithography, and other high-quality optical systems.

Small-Tool Polishing
Enhanced with special control software and custom-formulated polishing pads, ITT's small-tool polishing technology deterministically and accurately shapes and corrects optics, including high departure off-axis aspheric parts with difficult aperture profiles.

Ion Figuring
ITT ion figuring technology uses an accelerated beam of neutralized argon ions to correct optical surface figure errors rapidly and precisely to the atomic level.
